Students rush to PMS stall at Surabhi 2014 Home>> What's New
Surabhi 2014– a State level SishuMahostav was organized by Odisha Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA) from 12thto 14th November at the premises of Govt. High School, Unit-9, Bhubaneswar.  The purpose of the programme was to provide exposure to the school students by providing them with opportunities in terms of organizing various events, workshops and cultural programmes, exploring and recognizing their talents. This provided encouragement to the students and contributes towards their holistic development. The event provided the school children with the platform to sharpen and showcase their talents from a huge number of talent pools. Selected children and their guide teachers from the selected schools across all the 30 districts participated in the festival. The children who participated at the state level  were selected based on their competencies and performances at the  block and district level Surabhi competitions. OPEPA took the overall responsibility for the organization and anagement of the entire programme.The programme started with an informal inauguration by the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Smt. Usha Padhee. She encouraged the students and informed that several initiatives have been undertaken by the Department keeping thebright future of students in mind.Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Naveen Patnaik was also present on the occasion of Children’s Day on 14th Nov and reiterated his commitment to improve efficiency and bringing improvements in education through joint effort of the community/civil society, as well as, the government by creating change agents for social changes in the society. Alongwith him were eminent guests like Shri Debi Prasad Mishra, Hon’ble Cabinet  Minister; Shri Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister of State for Culture & Tourism; Dr Prassana Kumar Patsani, Hon’ble  MP, Bhubaneswar; Shri  Ananta Narayan  Jena, BMC Mayor; Commissioner-cum-Secretary, ST&SC Development Dept.; State Project Director, RMSA;State Project Director, OPEPA;Educationists including the key education officials from the state education department.

The children’s festival ‘Surabhi 2014’provided a chance for awareness generation of the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme (IX & X) for ST & SC students. Considering that a huge number of students, teachers and parents attend the SishuMahostav, it is a good opportunity to sensitize different stakeholders about the scholarship scheme, entitlement, its objectives and benefits in terms of contributing and improving education for ST&SC students in Odisha.

A dedicated space was provided within the ST/SC Development Department stall. The OGIP District Coordinator of Khordha took the initiative in finding a space for display of materials at the departmental stall that had been allocated by the S&ME Department for the programme.  Two OGIP Block Coordinators wereavailable each day at the stall to attend to the visitors and answer their queries.

Flex posters on bank processed, posters and standees on the scholarship scheme were put up at the stall. Leaflets containing the scheme details were distributed among the visitors. The staff manning the stall spoke about the scheme, its purpose and objectives. Feedback on the scholarship scheme was also collected from the visitors. More than 5000 visitors visited the stall. A number of government officials and education department staff officers, as well as, media persons and teachers, appreciated the scholarship scheme and DFID’ssupport in rollout of the scheme in Odisha.
